  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegan

Description

Sticky, smoky, and perfectly caramelized tofu cubes coated in a rich barbecue glaze, finished with green onions and sesame seeds. This easy plant-based dish is bold in flavor, satisfying in texture, and perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 ounces extra firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the barbecue sauce, soy sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper until smooth.
  3. Add olive oil to the skillet and swirl to coat the surface.
  4. Place the pressed and cubed tofu in a single layer in the skillet, leaving space between pieces.
  5. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the tofu and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes, stirring gently, until the sauce thickens and coats each piece.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • Press the tofu for at least 15 to 20 minutes for the best texture.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to allow proper browning.
  • If the sauce thickens too quickly, add a small splash of water to loosen it.
  • For extra heat, add a pinch of chili flakes to the sauce mixture.
