Description

This blueberry compote is a quick and easy recipe that turns fresh or frozen blueberries into a luscious, syrupy topping perfect for pancakes, yogurt, desserts, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and water to a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently to combine.
  2. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the berries begin to burst.
  3. If using cornstarch, mix it with 1 tablespoon of cold water, then stir it into the simmering berries. Cook for another 2 minutes until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in lemon zest if desired. Let cool slightly to thicken further.
  5. Serve warm or chilled over your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of salt to balance sweetness and enhance flavor.
  • Letting the compote sit overnight thickens the texture and deepens the flavor.
  • Try other berries like raspberries or strawberries for variation.
