  4. Pour about two-thirds of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread into an even layer.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the brownie layer.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter over the cream cheese dollops. Drizzle caramel sauce over the top in several places.

  8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft but not liquid. A toothpick inserted near the center may show a few moist crumbs.
