- 4 cube steaks (about 4 ounces each)
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour, divided
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
- 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper, divided
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups milk, divided
- About 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet to 350°F.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1 cup of the milk.
- In another bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour, 1 teaspoon of the salt, 1 teaspoon of the black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Dredge each cube steak in the seasoned flour, dip into the egg mixture, then dredge again in the flour for a double coating. Let rest for 5 minutes.
- Carefully place the breaded steaks into the hot oil and fry for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove steaks and drain on paper towels. Carefully discard excess oil, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the skillet.
- Melt the butter in the skillet, then whisk in the remaining 1/2 cup flour. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Gradually whisk in the remaining 1 cup milk. Add the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Simmer until thick and smooth.
- Spoon the warm gravy generously over the fried steaks and serve immediately.
