Description
A warm and comforting apple dessert with tender cinnamon-spiced apples baked under a golden oat crumble topping. Simple ingredients, cozy flavors, and the perfect balance of crisp and soft textures make this a timeless favorite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples, about 900 grams, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 100 grams granulated sugar
- 150 grams brown sugar, divided
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 120 grams all purpose flour, divided
- 90 grams old fashioned rolled oats
- 115 grams unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, 50 grams of the brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of the flour, and salt until evenly coated.
- Lightly grease a 9 inch baking dish and spread the apple mixture evenly inside.
- In another bowl, mix the remaining flour, rolled oats, and remaining brown sugar. Add cold cubed butter and blend with a fork or pastry cutter until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
- Keep the butter cold to achieve a crumbly topping texture.
- Allow the crisp to cool slightly so the filling thickens before serving.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent touch.
