Description
Golden and crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, these classic homemade waffles are made with simple pantry staples and come together in minutes. Perfect for cozy breakfasts or weekend brunch, they hold butter and maple syrup beautifully in every square.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups whole milk
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer instructions.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix, a few small lumps are fine.
- Lightly grease the waffle iron with butter or oil.
- Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter into the center of the waffle iron and spread slightly if needed.
- Close the lid and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the waffle is golden brown and crisp.
- Carefully remove and place on a wire rack. Repeat with remaining batter and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra crisp waffles, let them rest on a wire rack instead of stacking.
- If desired, separate the eggs and whip the whites before folding them into the batter for added fluffiness.
- Cooked waffles can be frozen and reheated in a toaster for convenience.
