- 8 slices thick cut bread, preferably brioche or challah
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for cooking
- 1/4 cup maple syrup, for serving
- 1/2 cup fresh berries, for topping
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Place a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of butter.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until fully blended.
- Allow the butter to melt and lightly coat the surface of the skillet.
- Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, soaking about 15 to 20 seconds per side.
- Place soaked bread in the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Transfer to a plate, dust with powdered sugar, and top with fresh berries.
- Drizzle with maple syrup and serve warm.
Notes
- Use slightly stale bread for best texture.
- Cook over medium heat to avoid burning the outside.
- Keep finished slices warm in a low oven while cooking remaining batches.
