Glazed Donuts

  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 donuts 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Soft, fluffy glazed donuts with a light, sweet sugar glaze that melts in your mouth. These classic treats are perfect for breakfast, snacks, or anytime you crave a comforting, homemade donut.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the glaze:
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix sugar, melted butter, salt, vanilla extract, and eggs. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out dough to about 1/2 inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut out donuts with a donut cutter or two round cutters.
  6. Place donuts on parchment-lined baking sheets, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts a few at a time, about 1 minute per side until golden brown.
  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  9. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip warm donuts into glaze and place on a wire rack to set.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil temperature is steady to avoid greasy donuts.
  • Donuts are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 1-2 days.
  • Try adding cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for extra flavor.
  • Use a candy thermometer to keep oil at the right temperature.
