Description

Flaky, golden Guava Pastelitos filled with sweet tropical guava paste — a quick and nostalgic treat that’s perfect with coffee or as a dessert.


Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup guava paste, sliced into thin rectangles
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice guava paste into even rectangles and beat the egg in a small bowl for egg wash.
  3. Lay out puff pastry on a floured surface and cut each sheet into 9 equal squares.
  4. Place guava paste on half of the squares, then top each with another square. Crimp edges with a fork and cut a small slit on top.
  5. Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar if using.
  6. Bake for 20 to 22 minutes or until golden and puffed.
  7. Cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
