Description
This homemade skillet toffee combines rich, buttery caramel with a layer of smooth chocolate and crunchy nuts. A perfect treat for holidays, gifts, or anytime you need a sweet, satisfying snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped almonds or pecans
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a heavy skillet over medium heat, combine butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.
- Continue stirring as the mixture turns golden brown and thickens. If using a thermometer, cook to 300°F.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot toffee onto the prepared sheet and spread it evenly.
- Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top and let sit 1–2 minutes to melt, then spread evenly.
- Sprinkle with chopped nuts and gently press them into the chocolate.
- Let cool completely, then break into pieces and store in an airtight container.
Notes
- Use a heavy-bottomed skillet to prevent burning.
- Watch closely as it cooks — the toffee can burn quickly.
- Try adding sea salt or espresso powder for flavor variations.
- Wrap pieces in wax paper for gifting.
