Classic spaghetti tossed in a rich tomato sauce and topped with tender, juicy homemade meatballs. A comforting and satisfying meal that brings traditional Italian American flavors to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces dry spaghetti
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 1 ½ inch meatballs.
  4. Heat olive oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
  5. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove them temporarily from the skillet.
  6. In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, and sugar. Stir to combine.
  7. Return the meatballs to the sauce and simmer gently for 20 minutes.
  8. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain without rinsing.
  9. Toss the cooked spaghetti directly into the sauce, coating evenly.
  10. Serve topped with freshly grated parmesan and chopped parsley.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender.
  • Reserve a small amount of pasta water to loosen the sauce if needed.
  • Simmer the sauce gently to develop flavor without burning.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
