- 12 ounces dry spaghetti
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- ¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 1 ½ inch meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
- Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove them temporarily from the skillet.
- In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, and sugar. Stir to combine.
- Return the meatballs to the sauce and simmer gently for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain without rinsing.
- Toss the cooked spaghetti directly into the sauce, coating evenly.
- Serve topped with freshly grated parmesan and chopped parsley.
Notes
- Do not overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender.
- Reserve a small amount of pasta water to loosen the sauce if needed.
- Simmer the sauce gently to develop flavor without burning.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
