Ingredients
Scale
- 12 ounces fresh cranberries
- 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1/2 cup water
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, orange juice, water, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, ground cloves, and salt.
- Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 to 12 minutes, until most berries burst and sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat, discard cinnamon stick, and stir in orange zest.
- Let cool completely before serving. Sauce will thicken as it cools.
Notes
- Use frozen cranberries if fresh aren’t available — no need to thaw.
- Adjust sugar to taste for a sweeter or tangier sauce.
- Blend for a smoother texture or leave chunky for rustic appeal.
