Description

A classic Italian layered dessert made with coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a silky mascarpone cream, finished with a delicate dusting of cocoa powder. Creamy, balanced, and perfect for making ahead.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ¼ cups strong brewed coffee, completely cooled
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and thick.
  2. Add the mascarpone cheese and mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to soft peaks, then gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture.
  4. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee and arrange a single layer in an 8×8 inch dish.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture evenly over the soaked ladyfingers.
  6. Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers on top.
  7. Spread the remaining mascarpone mixture evenly over the second layer.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
  9. Before serving, dust the top evenly with unsweetened cocoa powder using a fine sieve.
  10. Slice and serve chilled.
