Ingredients
- Puff Pastry: 1 sheet, thawed but still cold
- Cheddar Cheese: 1 cup, finely grated
- Parmesan Cheese: 1/4 cup, finely grated
- Egg: 1, beaten
- Paprika: 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt: A pinch
- Black Pepper: 1/4 teaspoon, freshly cracked
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the grated cheeses, paprika, salt, and pepper together.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle.
- Brush half of the pastry with beaten egg, sprinkle the cheese mixture evenly, and fold over the other half. Roll gently to seal.
- Cut into ½-inch strips and twist each one a few times. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with remaining egg wash and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Let cool slightly before serving warm and crispy.
Notes
- Chill twisted straws before baking to keep their shape.
- Use freshly grated cheese for better flavor and texture.
- Reheat in the oven to restore crispness if made ahead.
