- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease two 8 inch round cake pans.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between pans.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting.
- For frosting, beat butter until smooth, gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in vanilla and heavy cream until fluffy.
- Frost between layers and around cake before serving.
