Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease two 8 inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly between pans.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool completely before frosting.
  9. For frosting, beat butter until smooth, gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in vanilla and heavy cream until fluffy.
  10. Frost between layers and around cake before serving.
