Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened for frosting
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract for frosting
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and prepare two 8 inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide batter and bake 25 to 30 minutes.
  7. Cool completely before frosting.
  8. Beat frosting ingredients until smooth and spread over cake layers.
