- 1 1/2 cups Gruyere cheese, freshly grated
- 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a medium baking dish.
- In a large skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until deeply golden and caramelized.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add sliced cabbage, salt, black pepper, and thyme. Sauté for 8 to 10 minutes until slightly softened.
- Transfer the cabbage and onion mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Pour heavy cream and vegetable broth evenly over the mixture.
- Sprinkle grated Gruyere cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
