Description

A creamy, comforting casserole layered with tender sliced potatoes, savory diced ham, and melted cheddar cheese, baked until golden and bubbly.


Ingredients

  • 6 medium russet potatoes, about 2 pounds, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups diced cooked ham
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and cook until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the diced ham and 1 cup of cheese. Pour half of the sauce over the layer. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, ham, sauce, and top with remaining cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.
  6. Let rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
