Description

Tender southern collard greens slow simmered with onion, garlic, and broth for deep comforting flavor. A classic and hearty side dish.


Ingredients

  • 2 large bunches collard greens, stems removed and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Wash collard greens thoroughly, remove thick stems, and chop into strips.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook briefly.
  4. Add chopped collard greens in batches, stirring until slightly wilted.
  5. Pour in chicken broth, then add salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 45 to 60 minutes until tender.
  7. Stir in apple cider vinegar before serving.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
